Whenapolitician joins the
Cabinet (the team of the
most senior ministers in the
Government) they agree to
collectiveresponsibility.This
means they must support the
Government’sdecisions, even
if they disagree with them
in private. Ifaministercan’t
do this, they areexpected
to resign. Sometimes the
Government suspendscollective
responsibility.This happened
in the 2016referendum (public
vote) on the UK’smembership
of the European Union.
