HOW IT
WORKS
Getting started
with PhotoLab
is simple
1
SELECT A FOLDER
First, select the folder
containing the photos you want
to inspect and enhance, or use
the PhotoLibrary’s intelligent
search tool (see opposite).
When you click on an image,
PhotoLab will apply a lens
correction profile automatically
- or offer to download one.
2
CHOOSE A PRESET
To enhance your images,
switch to the Customise mode.
Here you can choose from a
number of different PhotoLab
image enhancement presets.
These let you try out different
‘looks’ with a single click – you
don’t need to start working
with the advanced adjustment
tools until you’re ready.
3
MAKE ADJUSTMENTS
PhotoLab is really easy to
get started with, since image
enhancements and lens
corrections are automatic.
To go beyond the basics, use
the Tools panel on the right
side of the screen and the
Local Adjustments button
at the top (see opposite).
DXO PHOTOLAB 3
mage correction and
enhancement specialist DxO
recently released PhotoLab 3,
the latest version of its raw
processing, lens correction
and photo editing software. PhotoLab by DxO
is already among the best photo editing
programs on the market, and new features
in this version include a DxO ColorWheel,
for advanced colour adjustments and
replacements; an optimised Repair tool,
where you can now choose the repair ’source’
area; a Local Adjustments Mask Manager
for PhotoLab’s extensive adjustment tools;
and support for keywords in PhotoLab’s
PhotoLibrary module.
DxO PhotoLab offers all the tools of
regular photo editors, but takes a different
direction from many of its rivals, putting raw
processing and lab-derived lens corrections
front and centre. It can extract extraordinary
image quality even from the most humble
camera equipment, and DxO’s acquisition
of the Nik Collection has brought powerful
local adjustment tools, too.
Nik Collection 2 by DxO includes both the Nik
software suite and PhotoLab Essential, and
we understand that there will be upgrade
options to incorporate PhotoLab 3.
The new DxO ColorWheel offers a new and
very different way to make adjustments to
individual colour ranges based on hue,
saturation and lightness. For example, you
can change the hue of a blue sky without
changing other colours, or change the colour
of a car or a flower. The Repair tool has been
extended so that you can now choose the
source area from which to touch out sensor
spots or larger unwanted objects; as well as
operating in an automatic tone-matching
repair mode, it can now create direct clones,
with feathering and opacity control.
With version 3, DxO has also improved
PhotoLab’s PhotoLibrary module – the
window where you can browse and organise
your images. The latest version adds support
for keywords, recognising and displaying
those already added to images you import,
and now with the ability to add, remove or
rename keywords within the program.
