TIPS FROM OUR READERS

When I take a break from machine-
quilting with invisible thread, I use a
piece of masking tape to stick the
thread end to my machine. That way
I can easily fi nd the thread when I
return to quilting.

I used to frequently
misplace my clear
acrylic templates
in my work space.
I now mark them
with colorful
fi ngernail polish
so I can locate
them at a glance.

My sewing machine has a permanent
home in a carpeted room. To stop the
foot pedal from moving as I sew, I added
a sticky-back piece of hook-and-loop
tape to the bottom. The tape grips the
carpet, which keeps the pedal from
dancing.
DIANE METTAM
Eureka, California

I let a plastic disk keep my scissors
and thimble handy and my thread from
rolling away when I’m hand-quilting in
a frame. The upturned disk slides easily
across the quilt.
DOLORES BADER
Overland, Missouri

My daughter and I were in separate
cities when planning the color scheme
for her wedding quilt. Because we
couldn’t get together to shop for fabric,
she selected paint chips from a home
improvement store that I could use to
make choices at my local quilt shop.
