80 Achieving pH Balance to Treat Specific Ailments
SUGGESTIONS FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF NORMAL
THYROID FUNCTION*
➤ If tests indicate you have low thyroid function, have your
parathyroid and progesterone tested (both men and women).
If they are underactive, they may be responsible for your
sluggish thyroid function.
➤ If your temperature is subnormal, check for food allergies (see
Chapter 2) before you start taking thyroid supplements.
➤ If you can’t normalize your thyroid function with nutritional
supplements (outlined here) take a medication that contains
T3 as well as T4, such as CynoPlus. Medications that contain
only T4 are dangerous. If the liver is sluggish and can’t convert
all the T4 into the active T3, the excess T4 suppresses thyroid
function. So as not to overload the liver with T4, break the
thyroid tablet into two pieces, and take one half in the
morning and the other half at night.
➤ Dr. Cordaro recommends for both hypothyroid and
hyperthyroid problems a glandular called Thytrophin (made by
Standard Process) as well as the herb bladderwrack for
hypothyroid and bugleweed for hyperthyroid. He always
includes in his treatment of the thyroid gland a Standard
Process product called Calma Plus for the parathyroid (it’s a
type of calcium specifi cally designed for this gland). (After
taking glandulars for a while, drug medication is sometimes no
longer necessary.)
➤ Get exposure to sunlight preferably daily when the sun is at an
angle, so as to reduce exposure to ultraviolet light. To
maximize your exposure to sunlight, try panning (take off
pineal absorbs it, just as light is absorbed into the chlorophyll pigment
in the chloroplasts in leaves for the production of glucose.
There are still relatively unpolluted areas in the mountains and
national parks in the United States where you can expose your body to
a few weeks of good quality sunlight a year—the most important factor
in the body’s ability to generate energy.
