In a blink
of an eye,
we’re again racing
through another year,
and though we vow
to take life slower,
that never works to
plan. The juggle of
work-life balance,
school commitments,
weekend sport,
caring for a loved
one, catching up with
friends and even gym
sessions can leave us
with little time for
ourselves. And, if we don’t make that time
for ourselves and look after our health,
all those things can fall apart.

Fittingly, this is our “fast” issue. It’s all
about fast food – not the drive-through
variety, just balanced, inspirational family
meals that won’t have you cooking for
hours. Food that will leave you contented
and your life on track. Remember that just
because it’s quick, doesn’t mean it’s not
able to delight those on the receiving end.

To start the fast-food revolution, crank
up the barbecue for our chicken on
the barbie feature, page 32.
I’ve prepared (and my
husband cooked) the
Barbecued Chermoula
Chicken with Pea
Puree several times,
and we’ve all
chimed, “That
was delicious!”

Keeping the momentum rolling, get
busy whisking up that pancake batter,
page 12, then indulge your tastebuds in
some serious flavour stacks that follow.
The Banana & Salted Caramel Pancake
Stack has left its mark on my tastebuds
(and hips)! Why not practise a few times
(wink, wink), just to ensure that, when
Pancake Day arrives on February 28,
your pancakes are the talk of the town.

Because time’s at a premium doesn’t
mean we can’t cater for all dietary needs.
I know only too well what’s involved when
you have special dietary requirements to
stick to – and how challenging and routine
mealtimes can become. So this month,
we include a feature on eating well with
diabetes, page 88. We help you with recipe
solutions for breakfast, lunch, dinner and,
dare I say it ... dessert. But, remember,
exercise is just as important as diet.

After all this running around, light
the candles, sprinkle the rose petals
and turn on the oven for some loved-up
baking. For pretty, flirty and simply
adorable food, our pink baking feature,
page 50, is divine and sure to capture
cupid’s arrow on Valentine’s Day.

I love how Australia is so multicultural

  • and this month highlights that, with
Chinese New Year in full swing. Our Asian
street food feature, page 20, captures
enchanting moments of a land far away,
that luckily we can re-create here with
    in-season produce and fresh flavours.

Keep life balanced.
