LARGEST GATHERING OF PEOPLE
DRESSED AS ELEPHANTS
Family bereavement charity 2 Wish Upon a Star (UK) gathered
a herd of 385 polyester elephants in Cardiff’s Principality
Stadium on 13 Aug 2016. The charity was founded by Rhian
Burke (UK) following the loss of her infant son, George, and
her husband, Paul, within a week of each other, and has an
elephant named “Gorgeous George” as its mascot. The aim
of the event was to raise awareness of family bereavement
services in Wales and the UK as a whole.

LARGEST GATHERING OF PEOPLE DRESSED AS FRUIT
On 18 Jul 2015, eccentric DJ duo Dada Life (Olle Cornéer
and Stefan Engblom, both SWE) persuaded 629 attendees
of their Citizens of Dada Land event in San Bernardino,
California, USA, to show up dressed as bananas. The duo are
known for their playful live events; in 2013, they and their
audience broke the record for the largest pillow fight (with
3,813 participants) – a record that stood for just under a year.

LARGEST GATHERING OF STEAMPUNKS
Brought together by their love of Victorian clothing, brass
and attaching things to hats, 228 devotees of steampunk
culture attended the Steampunk New Zealand Festival in
Oamaru on 4 Jun 2016. Steampunk is a science-fiction genre
characterized by a re-imagining of the modern world using
the gears, smoke and steam engines
of the Industrial Age.

For a mass
skipping record to
count, everyone must
clear the rope at least
12 times, according
to GWR rules.

MOST PEOPLE BRUSHING THEIR TEETH
Having been supplied with a toothbrush, toothpaste and
a cup of water by My Dental Plan (IND), an astonishing
16,414 people set a new record for simultaneous tooth-
scrubbing on 7 Jan 2016. The attempt was held on the
sports ground of Delhi Public School (East Campus) in
Karnataka, India. All participants were required to follow
the World Health Organization’s favoured tooth-brushing
technique, which involves a minimum of a minute’s brushing.

MOST PEOPLE SKIPPING
ON THE SAME ROPE
The students of Wat Lam Nao School (THA) set
a new jump-rope record in Bangkok, Thailand,
on 11 Jan 2016. Not one of the 300 students
who took part touched the rope (which means
disqualification), even though they performed
more than twice the minimum number of jumps.

LARGEST GATHERING
OF PEOPLE WEARING
HAND PUPPETS
On 14 May 2016, San Diego
Zoo (USA) spokesman
Dr Zoolittle performed a
2-min 45-sec reenactment
of the founding of the zoo,
aided by a supporting cast
of 508 lion hand puppets.
The lions recreated
the dramatic roar that
inspired zoo founder Harry
Wegeforth to bring exotic
animals to his town. The
performance was part of a
series of events organized
to mark the world-famous
zoo’s centennial.
