In competition in a single year
In 2012, Sébastien Auroux (DEU) solved
2,033 out of 2,122 Rubik’s Cubes in World Cube
Association competitions. That’s the equivalent
of more than 5.5 solves every day – and the

solved outside of official events.

In one hour (team of nine)
The greatest number of cubes unscrambled
in 60 min is 2,454 and was achieved by nine
members of TEAM INDIA (all IND) in Chennai,

FASTEST TIME TO
COMPLETE A RUBIK’S CUBE
Student Feliks Zemdegs (AUS) took just
4.73 sec to solve a 3 x 3 x 3 Rubik’s Cube
at the POPS Open competition in
Melbourne, Australia, on 11 Dec

  1. Feliks shaved one-
hundredth of a second off the
    previous record, which had
been set five weeks earlier by
    Mats Valk (NLD). When Feliks
    broke the record, Mats was
    sitting right next to him!

SMALLEST RUBIK’S CUBE
A mere 5.6 mm (0.22 in) wide, this minuscule cube
was created by Tony Fisher (UK). But despite its
diminutive size, it can be operated like a normal
Rubik’s Cube, albeit with the use of tweezers.
The cube – which can easily be balanced on a
fingertip – was produced from frosted plastic
using a multi-jet modelling 3D printer.

LARGEST RUBIK’S CUBE
Lifelong puzzle fan Tony Fisher (UK) has created
a Rubik’s Cube with sides 1.57 m (5 ft 1.8 in) long,
as confirmed in Ipswich, Suffolk, UK, on 5 Apr

  1. It took Tony two months to build this fully
functional cube at his home. Visitors have come
from as far afield as Japan to see his super-sized
puzzle. Tony makes tiny cubes too (see right)!
