YORK RACINGTV
TV GUIDES
1.55 GUIDE: Corelli appreciated the return to this distance when only denied by a short
head at Newmarket (1m4f, gd) earlier this month and will popular off just a 3lb higher mark
for the team of Frankie Dettori and John Gosden. Caradoc won his second in three with
victory at Windsor (1m2f, gd-fm) and steps up in trip under a 5lb penalty. However, this
prize may stay in Yorkshire thanks to Jedd O’Keeffe’s JAZEEL, who has only once finished
outside the top two this season and Jamie Spencer keeps the faith in the saddle.
2.25 GUIDE: It is hard to oppose the all-conquering STRADIVARIUS making it back-to-
back victories in this contest (gd-fm) and the star stayer, who arrives unbeaten in eight
now, has looked as good as ever this season. Dee Ex Bee got within a neck of the five-
year-old at Goodwood (2m, gd) and will be hoping to make it third time lucky up against
the selection, while Falcon Eight proved his aptitude for this trip with a successful raid
to Sandown last month (2m, gd-fm) and could have a part to play.
3.00 GUIDE: THREAT has proved to be just that when rattling the crossbar at Group 2
level at both Royal Ascot (6f, gd) and Glorious Goodwood (6f, gd) and the 100,000gns
Footstepsinthesand colt could make it third time lucky in this company. Kevin Ryan has a
fine record in this and saddles three, Abstemious, Byline and C&D winner (gd-fm)
Repartee, while Dubai Station has run with credit in a pair of Group contests of late and
represents last year’s winning owner.
3.35 GUIDE: TEN SOVEREIGNS rewarded supporters who had sent him off favourite for
both the 2000 Guineas (1m, gd) and Commonwealth Cup (6f, gd-sft) when reversing Ascot
form with Advertise to take the July Cup (6f, gd-fm) in useful fashion last time. He drops
back in trip now to take on Battaash over his optimum trip, in what is sure to be an
enthralling contest, with Charlie Hills’ five-year-old as good as ever this term. Mabs Cross
was denied by a nose in this last season (gd-fm) and is respected along with Soldier’s Call.

HOOF PRINT
❏ PAT SMULLEN has ruled out riding in
his charity race at next month’s
Longines Irish Champions Weekend
after a setback in his health.
The multiple Group One-winning
jockey announced his retirement in
May, having undergone treatment for
pancreatic cancer after being
diagnosed in March of last year.
Smullen had been planning to return
to the saddle for the Pat Smullen
Champions Race For Cancer Trials
Ireland at the Curragh on September 15,
but has had to withdraw on medical
advice.
He said: “Unfortunately I’ve had a
setback with my health and have to
undergo chemotherapy.
“On advice from my medical team, I
am unable to ride in the Champions
Race for Cancer Trials Ireland. I am
bitterly disappointed not to be able to
take part in this very special race – I
was really looking forward to riding
against such a brilliant group of
champions, especially at the Curragh.”
IT was not the plan to
establish TEN
SOVEREIGNS (3.35,
nap, above) as a sprinter
but he can prove to be the
best in Europe by landing
today’s Nunthorpe
Dropped in trip after
failing to get home in the
2,000 Guineas, he was
fourth behind Advertise,
over six furlongs at Royal
Ascot, before turning the
tables on that rival when
taking the July Cup at
Newmarket. Stablemate
Fairyland was third.
Today he tackles five
furlongs and Battaash for
the first time.
Battaash is rated the
best sprinter in Europe
but has twice failed to
show his form in today’s
race, and he concedes 2lb
to the selection.
Following two excellent
runs in defeat, THREAT
(3.00, nb) can make
amends by taking the
Gimcrack Stakes.
He chased home
Golden Horde at
Goodwood last time, who
went on to finish third to
Earthlight at Deauville.
FOX DUTY FREE
(4.15, treble) finished like
a rocket when third
behind Owney Madden
at Newbury and today’s
step-up from six to seven
furlongs will be ideal.
STRADIVARIUS
(2.25) looks set for
another penalty kick in
the Lonsdale Cup. He
took the prize last year
and has twice beaten Dee
Ex Bee, the second
highest-rated runner in
the race.
