MANY MOBILE APPLICATIONS
are free to download on Google
Play at your leisure. However,
there are times that you are
required to pay a certain amount
in order to use the full function
of an app. You either pay it
upfront before downloading,
in the form of monthly or yearly
membership fees, or within the
app when you want to access
a certain feature only.
It’s all well and good being able
to maximize your mobile device
through feature-packed apps—
until the credit card bill arrives
and you realize you’ve spent
way too much.
Looking to ease a packed workload? Check
out Microsoft’s newly added feature on its
Excel app for Android and iOS devices: the
Insert Data from Picture tool. Using Excel’s
image-recognition system, this feature allows
you to take a photo of data on a physical paper
and convert them into editable information
on the Excel app. It even allows you to fix
the data before it proceeds with converting
the image.
Here’s the step-by-step guide on how to use
this time-saving hack.
- Open the Excel app.
- Tap the New button at the top to
create a new file. You can use a blank
workbook or one of the available
templates on the app. - At the bottom of the app, tap Data
from Picture button (a 3x3 Grid with
a camera). - If it’s your first time to use the feature,
click Allow when prompted to give
Microsoft permission to turn your photo
to data. - Once the camera has launched,
place the red rectangle around the
data you want to convert, then tap the
Capture button. - Once you are satisfied with the
captured information, tap the red check
button to begin converting. If not, tap the
X if you want to capture again. - A preview of the captured data will
appear. Tap a red-highlighted cell and
click Edit to add or make changes on
the information. - Press Done once you’re finished.
- Finally, click Insert at the top to place
the data in your workbook.

To avoid the unnecessary
expenses, here are some tips on
how to manage your Google Play
budget.
First, make sure that you have set
the correct Google Play country
profile on your account. Then,
proceed with these steps:
- Open the Google Play
Store app. - Go to Menu ( ) >
Account >
Purchase History. - Select Set Budget.
- Input the amount you
want for your monthly
budget. You can edit the
amount anytime you want. - Tap Save.
If you want to remove your
budget, tap Menu ( ) >
Account > Purchase History
on your Google Play Store app.
Then click Remove Budget.
To keep track of your spending,
open Menu ( ) > Account >
Purchase History. Note that
your monthly budget is stored in
your Google Account, but it will
be removed after a year.
Setting a budget doesn’t stop you
from buying an item. Whenever
you purchase an item, you’ll see a
message that lets you know if you’re
close or you’re over your set budget.
