Marcos thought it would be interesting to be a geologist, so
he checked out several books about geology from the library.
- Do you think you would like to study geology when you are in
high school or college? Do you think you would like to be a

Pressure - Today you will hear how pressure causes many changes to the
earth. - Say pressure with me three times.
- Pressure is the force you use when you push on something.
[Have partner pairs press their hands against one another to
create pressure.] - Denise broke a hard-boiled egg by putting pressure on the
shell with her hands. [Demonstrate a squeezing motion with
your hands.]
April’s mother used her hand to put pressure on her
daughter’s arm, so her cut would stop bleeding. - What do you think would happen if you put pressure on a
balloon by squeezing it between your hands? Turn and tell
your partner what you think would happen. Use the word
pressure when you talk with your partner.
Purpose for Listening
Tell students that today they are going to meet an interesting
scientist who knows a lot about the earth. Tell them to listen
carefully to learn more about the earth.
