- A simple cable voltage drop test, performed
by attaching the leads to each end of any
circuit. It will definitively isolate excessive
voltage drop to either the power feed or
ground return side of the circuit. This saves
having to check each side of the circuit sep-
arately using a conventional multimeter,
and will provide a pass/fail answer based on
user-programmable parameters entered
into the meter before testing begins. - Full digital multimeter capabilities,
including DC volts, AC volts, amperage
(with the optional amp clamp), tempera-
ture, ohms, and test diodes. It also pro-
vides a small oscilloscope. - Battery-operated printer connected to the
unit via an infrared link. This lets you
print full test results as a record for cus-
tomers or as backup to a work order for
future reference.
As described in my book Powerboater’s
Guide to Electrical Systems, voltage drop tests pre-
viously required that the circuit in question be
activated and that at least some current be
allowed to flow through it. This can be some-
what of a handicap on circuits that have simply
stopped working. The inTELLECT EXP-1000
provides its own low-level power to the circuit to
enable its conductance testing capabilities, mak-
ing it possible to determine if excessive voltage
drop exists without having a live circuit. Further,
the inTELLECT EXP-1000 will automatically
determine the exact voltage drop in volts, and
isolate whether the excessive drop is on the
power (supply) side or the negative (return) side
of the circuit. This saves considerable time over
the traditional methods used to determine the
location of excessive voltage drop in a circuit.
