Commercial Coast Radio Stations (CRS) may offer MF and/or HF services
including:
Radio Telephone (RT) link calls to homes/ offices around the world.
Telex and/or e-mail messaging services (for private/ business messages and to
Ship Reporting Systems).
You can also use your MF/HF SSB radio for routine intership calls and to
receive broadcast stations (e.g. the BBC World Service and other long-range
national broadcast stations).
The MF IHF SSB radio installation
The main components of a MF IHF SSB radio installation (see
figure 7.2) are:
- The MF IHF transceiver unit, which may be integrated with the main
control unit or be a separate unit. (May have an additional, remote,
control head). - An MF/HF Scanning Watch Receiver (scans your chosen DSC
Alerting frequencies in turn). - A DSC Controller (to compose DSC Alerts and to display received
alerts). - A handset (for voice calls) and a computer (for NBD P ITelex services)
- the computer may be connected to a Local Area Network (LAN).
