I


developed bad eating habits
in college, but it wasn’t until I
graduated and started leading a
more sedentary life that things
got really bad. I ended up weighing over
350 pounds. I avoided doctors for years,
because I was afraid of what they might
tell me. When I eventually saw a doctor,
I found out that I had hypertension. The
doctor wanted to put me on medication.
I didn’t want to be on medication
forever. I made a proposition: If I
could lose weight and lower my blood
pressure naturally, could I delay going
on meds? He agreed.
I researched diets for lower blood
pressure, and I came across the Forks
Over Knives documentary. I started
eating lots of fruits and veggies,
though I still ate turkey and eggs. I lost
150 pounds, but I was unhappy with
my loose skin. I fi gured the way to a
tighter body was to work out and eat as
healthfully as possible, and that meant
giving up all animal products. Then I
discovered vegan bodybuilders, such as
Robert Cheeke, and that convinced me.
On Sept. 6, 2016, I became
completely plant-based. Since making
the switch, I’ve built more muscle than
ever. I have tons of energy, and I work
out fi ve days a week. I attribute my
vitality to my clean eating.
