Improvements and repairs to
the centuries-old Cromarty
Harbour in the Highlands of
Scotland are now under way.
The Grade A listed harbour,
which was designed by John
Smeaton, has just been
dredged, making visitor
berthing more accessible, and
repairs have been made to the
stonework on the bridge.

The extent of marine litter in mainland Scotland has been
revealed following the completion of a mapping project.
The SCRAPbook (Scottish Coastal Rubbish Aerial
Photography) initiative saw volunteer pilots fl ying the mainland
recording the debris they saw and logging it on an interactive
map. The scheme is now seeking funding to expand the

Brightlingsea, Essex. For the past
45 years the boat brokerage and
chandlery, which employs more
than 15 staff, has been owned and
run by Ric and Steve Morgan.

has won the
University Sailing
Sustainability
Challenge for
2018-19 in
recognition of
its work in
encouraging boaters to become more sustainable, including
activities such as litter picks at Derwent Reservoir.
The award is given out by the RYA and British Marine’s
Sussex Sailability is appealing environmental initiative The Green Blue.
for volunteers who can give up
at least one day a month to
help disabled sailors take to
the water this summer.
The charity, which is based at
Sussex Yacht Club in
Shoreham, has 12 vacancies.
Training will be provided along
with relevant RYA
qualifi cations, which are either
free or heavily subsidised.

keelboat or dinghy sailors, as
well as those with a general
background in sailing are
needed. He added that RYA
Safety Boat qualifi ed
volunteers, or people with a
PB2 licence who would like to
work towards their Safety Boat
qualifi cation were also

2019 includes new fl oodlights,
railings, ladders and
fi shermen sheds, installing
new seating and information
boards and repairs to the old
Admiralty pier, including
replacing fenders.
The Cromarty Harbour Trust
has secured £640,000 towards
the cost of the project. It is
now raising extra money for
further upgrades and repairs.

Work is expected to start on
building the new 373-berth
Edinburgh Marina in late
2019-early 2020. Developer
Edinburgh Marina Holdings
said it was awaiting fi nal
planning approval for parts of
the scheme, which includes a
187-bed hotel and 436
apartments. McLaughlin &
Harvey will be the main
contractor for the fi rst phase
of the work. The marina is
scheduled to open in 2020.
