Practical Boat Owner – June 2019

(Sean Pound) #1
It’s been a great year for
women in sailing, just look at
the accomplishments of
Team Sail Like a Girl, Marie
Riou, Carolijn Brouwer, Tracy
Edwards and Susanne
Huber-Curphey. Not to
mention Wendy Tuck and
Nikki Henderson who
skippered their boats to the
top two places in the 2017/
Clipper Round the World
Race. So it was no surprise
to see a Facebook fi ght
break out when Clipper
announced an all-male
skipper selection for the next
edition http://www.facebook.com/

So this month we’re
celebrating women skippers
on YouTube because there
are some great ones out
there making good videos!

Q Clarisse Crémer on
Clarisse sur l’Atlantique is
an extremely competent yet
highly entertaining racing
skipper with a great story to
tell. Following her 2nd place
in last year’s Mini Transat
Race, Banque Populaire
chose her to take over as
skipper of their IMOCA from
Armel Le Cléac’h, the
Vendée Globe’s last winner.

Genius move (watch and
learn, Clipper). But fi rst, it’s
the inaugural season of the

QI now love watching paint

Tyler’s channel POGDSMOR.
An accomplished artist and
sailor, she carried on cruising
solo after her husband died
in 2011. Now aged 72, she
has recently added
videomaking and drone
piloting to her seemingly
endless list of talents.
Respect!

QCaptain Holly on Another
Adventure is in hospital in
Virgin Gorda after a
night-time collision between
her tender and a powerboat.
We wish her the best with her
recovery. But before any of
that happened, Holly could
be seen helping suddenly

of Sailing SV Delos) on

her 1969 41ft Amel.

SEADOG OF THE MONTH

A quick look at your May 2019
editorial and a scan through
the magazine revealed
enthusiastic references to the
mast-up route on the Dutch
inland waterways (Cruising
Notes). Unfortunately the
chartlet on page 91 is
incorrect for the route given
between Amsterdam and
Rotterdam. Mast-up boats can

My brother Ted and I are joint
owners of Blue Bar, the Albin
Vega that featured in part 1 of
your Popular Classics series
‘The Age of Discovery’ in PBO
March 2019. The photograph
was taken during the 2007
Round the Island Race when
the yacht was being sailed by
my two nephews Robin and
Andrew Trim. They did very well
winning their class. In 2009 my
brother Ted and I sailed the
race, again winning our class.
We bought Blue Bar as a
wreck in 2003 and rebuilt her.
The only serviceable parts left
were the hull, topsides, mast
and boom. She is still sailed
competitively in handicap
races at Hythe (Southampton)
sailing club where she

constantly wins trophies.
After the rebuild she looked
an absolute picture.

Of 140 Seadog yachts built
between 1967 and 1974
almost all are still sailing. If
you are lucky enough to own
a Seadog, whether it is the
triple keel or deep Seadog,
we would really like to know
where she is and who is her
current keeper. Many

Seadogs have gone missing
from our Owners Association
list, or have incorrect owners
and addresses attached to
them. Send info by email to
