Practical Boat Owner – June 2019

The tank finally removed, showing the GRP support panels
that prevent sideways movement.

6

A new
composite
water tank from Tek
Tanks to the same
dimensions as the
old one. Note inlet
and outlet pipes are
sited on the
starboard side for
ease of installation.

7

The new 40mm
inlet pipe and
10mm outlet pipe
connected up. Just
the 5mm breather
pipe left to connect
to its fitting.

9

A new, easily removable GRP cover fixed in place using self
tapper screws set into stainless steel cup washers.

8

The new tank in place. A piece of carpet underlay on top
will make a good fit when the new berth base goes in.

10

Cabin cleaned up, cushions
back in place, job complete.

1

I cut four inspection holes in the forward berth base so I
could determine the size of the tank beneath.

3

Wooden battens were glued in to hold the tank securely in
place – these had to be cut away.

2

Once I knew the size I cut a larger hole to expose the old
stainless steel tank and allow room to lift it out.

4

Stern-facing inlet pipe leading into the starboard locker also
had to be cut away.
