The Dragon fires up
Palumbo Group’s new flagship, the 242ft Columbus
Classic Dragon that launched in March, is a fitting
symbol of the company’s growth in the superyacht
arena. Columbus Yachts, the new build division of
multifaceted Palumbo, debuted in 2011 with 177ft
Prima and in 2016 sold this much larger yacht with
time-honored proportions.
“From the beginning we wanted to have a classic
modern design, something that could last,” says
Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tec, the yacht’s exterior
designer and naval architect.
As attractive as the exterior lines are, the open,
light-filled interior was a big driver of the design.
“The salon is 20 meters [65ft] long without pillars,
so all the structure has been designed around this,”
Cutolo says. In keeping with clutter-free outer deck
spaces, the interior design by Francisco Guida is
described as elegant and sober.
Three platforms flip down to create an expansive
2,150 square-foot beach club, while another striking
feature is a waterfall from the mast that feeds a 23ft
counter-current swimming pool. columbusyachts.it

IT’S GOING TO BE A MADSUMMER
Lürssen has floated Project Fiji, now known as
Madsummer. A stunning yacht with exterior design
by Harrison Eidsgaard, she is nearly 312ft in length
with a beam just shy of 46ft. Work goes on in earnest
to ready the yacht for her first summer season.
Moran Yacht & Ship was involved from contract
signature to final outfitting. “[Fiji] is for an American
client who has been a great client of ours for 15 years,”
Rob Moran revealed at the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show.
“We’ve built many boats for him before.” A previous
Madsummer was also built at Lürssen. The 257ft 2008
launch was recently refitted and now cruises under the
name Rocinante. lurssen.com
