of the Admiralty-pattern or fisherman anchor.
These are really the fishermananchors of
today and are probably best termed yachts-
mananchors.These yachtsman anchors incorporate
two big improvements. First, the palm or
fluke is diamond shaped (Figure 22-6). This
means that there is no shoulder or heel on the
upturned arm for a line to snag. With yachts-
man anchors, fouling the upturned fluke is
thus much less likely. The second is that they
are fabricated with a metal rather than a
wooden stock, and this slides out and lies flat
alongside the shank for compact storage.
The Merriman company manufactured a
modification of the Herreshoff anchor that
