Voyage

I Cascading down the lush, tropical hillside
in front of Layan Beach, these 15 effortlessly
chic residences represent the pinnacle of
luxury tourism in Thailand. Designed by
the late Jaya Ibrahim, the retreats blur the
line between indoors and outdoors, with
bedrooms and living spaces divided into glass-
walled pavilions. Melting into the vertiginous
topography, the properties feature Asian
touches with wood furniture and soft neutral
textiles. The focal point of each residence is an
infinity pool, tiled in Indonesian Sukabumi
stone, that offers panoramic views over Phuket

yacht, Major Affair, bobbing in the bay below.
Arrivals by boat can also make use of this safe
anchorage before tendering in to the floating
jetty on Layan Beach. With superyacht-style
service, indoor cinemas, spa rooms and a
traditional dining sala, there is no need to
leave. However, if you fancy stretching your
legs, the main Anantara hotel’s amenities –
which include a Muay Thai kick-boxing ring
and an annual Zuma pop-up – are just a short
stroll away. As the day draws to a close, retreat
back up the hillside to your rooftop lawn to
watch the sun set over the forested landscapes
and the Andaman Sea. anantara.com
