AUGUST
BRITISH COLUMBIA,CANADA
Discover the last great forest of the north

The curve of coastline from Alaska down to British Columbia remains
one of the last great wildernesses of America. These northernmost
territories are home to some of the oldest and largest trees on earth,
and sailing through the forests can dwarf even the biggest yacht.
This raw landscape in Canada’s westernmost province is the home
of cougars, coastal wolves and the rare spirit bear – a unique subspecies
of black bear in which every one in 10 cubs is born with a vanilla-white
coat. Your captain will navigate through a maze of islands, islets, fjords
and channels to find pods of breaching humpback whales feasting on
Canadian salmon. In protected coastal parks you can find secluded spots
to fish among millions of chinook, halibut, rockfish and lingcod.
The primeval Great Bear Rainforest is the last tract of temperate
rainforest of this size in the world, with towering cliffs and trees rising
from the water’s edge. Your world-famous guides will lead you into its
rich interior to kayak along misty tributaries dotted with grizzly bears,
or introduce you to the land’s indigenous First Nations people.

Activities: Fly fishing during the August salmon run, whale watching,
searching for spirit bears with a local keeper, diving kelp forests to see
the hundreds of marine species sheltered there, kayaking and more.
