ever mind the deck quoits: family entertainment has come a long way in the world
of superyachts, as can be seen in the wealth of options offered today by Burgess’s
charter vessels. Marrying the benefits of family relaxation with the excitement
of discovering new and exotic locations, these yachts provide the perfect setting to instil a
lifelong enthusiasm for marine life from an early age. Unforgettable experiences such as
snorkelling and finding Nemo the clownfish, feeding stingrays and
watching dolphins and whales, or gaining a new skill in the safest
surroundings with RYA-approved personal watercraft training, all
provide shared family memories that will endure well beyond a
holiday. It’s hardly surprising that Burgess yacht captains find many
of the same families returning year after year.

HOME FROM HOME

There’s much to recommend Slipstream for family
travel. Within her show-stopping black hull and silver
superstructure, she has state-of-the-art entertainment
facilities (including a private sky lounge cinema), an
air-conditioned gym and an impressive array of water
toys. For Captain Steve, however,
the yacht’s appeal goes deeper than
that. “We pride ourselves on our
family-friendly environment,” he
says. “From the moment guests step
on board we aim to make them feel
at home. We create a comfortable
environment while providing the
highest level of service and safety, so
parents can relax and not have to
worry.” Captain Steve, who has been
with Slipstream for seven years,
believes the yacht’s secret is simple:
“It’s a great place to live and work,
and the longevity of the crew is
testament to that. The owners are
fantastic, the crew connect well and
it is a family-like environment. This
dynamic transfers to our charters.”

FUN AND GAMES

It’s fair to say there is never a dull moment
aboard Slipstream: the crew make it their
business to keep parents and children
entertained from the moment they wake up.
“We always hold an Olympics Day during a
charter,” says Steve Osborne, one of the boat’s
two rotational captains. “Teams compete over
an obstacle course featuring nearly all our
water toys, with a few surprises thrown in. All
the crew get involved, which is a great way for
everybody to interact in a competitive but fun
setting.” The facility to train guests in the use
of personal watercraft and issue licences after
a short period of instruction is a source of
particular pride: “It has
been really beneficial to
both the yacht and the
guests. It is one of the
many ways that we are
able to demonstrate how
seriously we take safety,
and it is something they
can take away with them
when they leave.”
