Bauhaus lives

Florence hails past masters

This year, the centenary of
Bauhaus has been widely
celebrated across art,
fashion and all disciplines
of design. One project
to look out for is the
collaboration between two
Berlin-based companies:
luxury accessories brand
Lutz Morris and porcelain
manufacturer KPM Berlin,
who have come together
to create a joint capsule
collection.
Inspired by
works by
Bauhaus icons
including Mies
van der Rohe and
László Moholy-
Nagy, Lutz Morris
created a limited
edition of five of
its signature intarsia bags
(below), hand-painted by
KPM master painter Atris
Schultz and featuring a
numbered and signed
porcelain plaque inside.
Meanwhile, KPM produced
10 special-edition tea
sets and ten porcelain
to-go cups (above),
equipped with a Lutz
Morris leather sleeve,
designed by Marguerite
Friedlaender and Thomas
Wenzel respectively.

Every other year, Biennale dell’Antiquariato draws the biggest collectors and dealers of antique Italian art
to Florence. The 31st edition will take place from 21 to 29 September at Palazzo Corsini, with 80 carefully
selected exhibitors invited to participate. In past years, some of the masterpieces presented during the fair
have found new homes in the most prestigious museums in the world. biennaleantiquariato.it

the images appear slightly blurred, as if they were
shot on camera.
Some pieces are based on a collage of two
photographs – a technique inspired by the work of
19th-century French photographer Gustave Le Gray.
An image of the sky and one of the sea, taken at different
times, are paired to create a landscape: as a result, these
compositions have a sense of light and perspective
that grabs the attention of the viewer. You will never
gaze at the horizon in quite the same way again.
