he challenge was to create a range of motor yachts inspired by the
world of Perini Navi sailing yachts,” explains Lamberto Tacoli,
chairman and CEO of Perini Navi. “In other words, we wanted to
create a line of motor yachts that are as immediately recognisable
asourclassic sailing yachts.”
A few years ago, company founder Fabio Perini and design director Franco
Romani were contemplating the profile of a 92-metre Perini Navi sailing yacht
when they realised it would make the perfect platform for an elegant motor
yacht. Romani took the latest Perini sailing boat designs and began
deconstructing the spars and rigging to leave just the bare hull and
superstructure. What started as a creative exercise quickly made more and more
sense as the project progressed. A completely new hull form was created, but
the sleek profile, flared bow and long overhangs were typical of a Perini Navi
sailing yacht. The Argonaut range was born.
From that original concept an entire range was developed, comprising five
models from 93 metres to 53 metres, but they all shared the distinctive and
graceful design DNA that has made Perini Navi a globally recognised brand.
Unlike the majority of superyachts that focus on volume at the expense of
aesthetics, the Argonaut range favours a low-rise superstructure combined with
a long, streamlined hull and wide beam. While still offering all the amenities
