THE‘Azuma’s’entered traffic on
May 15 with No. 800113 working
the 11.03 King’s Cross to Leeds,
and 13.45 return.The following
day, No. 800102 entered traffic on
King’s Cross to Hull diagrams. At
Leeds, on June 5, No. 800104 was


working the 10.45 Leeds-King’s
Cross revenue-earning service

AS MORE IETs enter traffic so the
Mk4 sets are being taken out of
traffic and placed in store at a
secure site atWorksop.The first
move, on June 4, saw Class 66
No. 66749 take BN23 north from
Ferme Park.This was followed
on June 8 when set BN25 made
the same journey, towed by
No. 66718. Set BN24 was stopped
at Ferme Park on the same day,
also waiting a move toWorksop.

THAMESTurbo No. 165110
proceeded at speed through
platform 4 atTilehurst station
in the Reading direction on an
empty stock move at 09.27 on
May 5.The Class 165/166s, once
ubiquitous, are increasingly
rare since the arrival of the
‘Electrostars’.

THE 10.23 service from
Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff
Central, formed of Class 166
No. 166205, experienced
problems with the traction
equipment at Fratton on June 1,
some eight minutes after leaving
Portsmouth Harbour.
The delay had increased to
35 minutes by the time the
train reached Southampton
Central, and was eventually 63
minutes late at Newport, where
it was terminated. Other services
between Portsmouth and Cardiff
were strengthened by the
addition of two coaches, to allow
for extra passengers travelling
toWorld Cup cricket matches at
Bristol and Cardiff.

CLASS 156 No. 156418 was noted
working the 11.58 Ipswich-
Peterborough and 13.50 return on
May 3, in place of the more usual
Class 170.

THE first of the Stadler‘Flirt’Class
745 12-car units was brought
north from Dollands Moor to
Crown Point on May 29-30.
No. 745002 was towed by
Class 92 No. 92041+Class 66
No. 66002 as far as Ripple Lane,
where the Class 92 came off,
leaving the Class 66 to continue
to Norwich.This was followed
on June 6 when No. 745003 was
delivered by No. 66002.
The following week, on
June 13, No. 745004 was delivered
by Class 66 No. 66001. No. 745002
was moved to Kimberley Park
on the Mid-Norfolk Railway
(MNR) by Class 37 No. 37800 on
June 5 because of limited space
at Crown Point. It has joined
Nos. 755413+755414 in secure
storage at MNR.

OVER the weekend of May 4-5
work was underway at Motherwell
station to encapsulate the

overbridge, in preparation for
repairs and repainting, which will
be undertaken at a later date.
ScotRail services between
Edinburgh/North Berwick and
Glasgow Central/Ayr only operated
between Edinburgh/North
Berwick andWishaw.
The Lanark to Glasgow Central
services were diverted running
fromWishaw via Holytown,
Mossend East Junction, Mossend
West Junction, and picking up the
booked route at Belshill.
Work also started on Saturday,
May 4 with the next stage of
the re-doubling of parts of the
Aberdeen to Inverness route, with
buses replacing trains between
Dyce and Inverurie stations until
May 18.

THE CLASS 365 units are leaving
Scotland for further storage at
Crewe south yard. In the first move,
onThursday, May 23, Class 37
No. 37884 hauled Nos. 365533
and 365517 on the 5Q42/12.17
Yoker CSD to Crewe HS.This
