IT'S AN OPEN SECRET THAT WE ARE HAVING A
love affair with Jaguar's smallest four door saloon, the
XE. I mean any XE. The size is just about right in true
Goldilocks parlance, but it is the handling and balance
of the car at speed which won us fully.
Obviously, somebody at Jaguar's Special Vehicles
Operations in Coventry felt the same way, and decided
to see how the aluminium car fared with a heavier
thundering supercharged V8 tucked under a carbon
fibre bonnet. The result is the awesome Jaguar road
and track XE SV Project 8. Thanks to Graeme Dell
and Marc Gammage we got to experience it at full race
pace on the Lakeside track.
James Scrimshaw at Jaguar Australia was the driving
force behind getting this car into the country, and not
just any Project 8 - this is the number one built of only
three hundred. It will remain where it is for just a total
of twelve months unless the Federal Government can
be persuaded to change its illogical import regulations
for a car which cannot even be registered because it is
left hand drive!
