Following the launch of the Gregory C. Marshall-
designed aluminum catamaran whale watching vessel
salishseaecliPse in late April (see “launchofthesalishsea
ecliPse” in the June 2019 WM), ABD Boats has been busy
building a second identical vessel for Prince of Whales (a
third sister was built by Armstrong Marine in Port Angeles,
WA and launched in 2016). Pre-assembly of major hull
components had already been proceeding prior to the
salishseaecliPse’s launch, using aluminum components
cut by Vancouver-based CMJ Technologies. When Western
Mariner visited ABD’s shop in late June the twin catamaran
hulls had been aligned and assembled together, with work
proceeding on the bow sections (photo right). At the stern,the quad Thrustmaster waterjet drives had al-
ready been installed, awaiting installation of
the four 700-hp Volvo Penta D13-700 EPA Tier
3 diesels and ZF Marine 325-1 marine gears.
The sister vessels measure 23.06 m x 8.08 m x
1.1 m full load draft (79'9" x 26'6" x 3'7") and
have a capacity for 96 passengers and four crew.
Indoor and outdoor seating is from Beurteaux
PTY (Australia), and interior panelling from
Pronautic in North Vancouver. As with the pre-
vious vessel, interior cabinetry and carpentry
