DAY 01: CHESTER
Leave Rhyl for the Mersey, into the
Manchester Ship Canal then the
Shropshire Union Canal to Chester.
DAY 3: MARKET DRAYTON
Rain and full wet weather gear, but the
day brightens and 22 locks later
Sandra and Arthur arrive in Market
Drayton to a warm summer’s evening.
DAYS 7-8: GLOUCESTER
Scooby enters the River Severn and
with the current, makes 5.5 knots to
Gloucester and a visit to the National
Waterways Museum.
DAY 10: TENBY
Scooby’s now running with the tide
timetables, meaning an 0440 start.
Motor-sail across Swansea Bay to
arriving in Tenby at 1510.
DAYS 11, 12, 13: FISHGUARD
Met yacht Ruby from Conwy and
make good time to Milford Haven,
then Fishguard via Skomer Island,
Jack Sound and Ramsey Sound, and
watch the sunset off St David’s Head.
DAY 14: PWLLHELLI
Having been home to sit outStorm
Hector, Arthur and Tony return to
Scooby to carry out some
maintenance on the rudder.
DAY 9: BARRY
Along the Gloucester and Sharpness
Canal, and out into the Bristol
Channel. Pass under the majestic
Severn Bridges to arrive in Barry.
DAY 4: BREWOOD
A glorious summer’s day of contrast
with deep tree-filled cuttings and vast
open countryside. Anne meets them at
Brewood before Sandra heads home.
DAY 6: STOURPORT-ON-SEVERN
Scooby takes the Stafford and
Worcester Canal to Stourport-on-
Severn. Note the skirts to protect the
paintwork – locks are a tight squeeze.
DAY 2:
CALVELEY
Amazing locks
at Chester!
Crew swap in
Calveley, near
Nantwich, gives
Anne a few
nights at home
and Sandra a
chance to do
some canal
boating on her
beloved
Scooby.
DAY 5:
GREENSFORGE
Scooby leaves
the Shropshire
Union Canal and
enters the
Stafford and
Worcester Canal.
Fifteen locks and
15 miles later
Scooby has
moored up in
Greensforge for
the night.
