A simple solution for

cleaning threaded holes

TIP OF
THE MONTH

WINNE
R!

This month our lucky winner of £30 in Chester gift vouchers is Neils
Borgen who has a simple solution to cleaning up threaded holes.
An article about a simple thread cleaner made me think of an even
simpler one.
Please take a look at the photo showing some samples.
The cleaner is manufactured by screwing a bolt into a threaded piece of
rectangular aluminium.
A nut is added and tightened to make sure the bolt won’t rotate when
milled. The aluminium is placed in a vice and the bolt is milled using a
vertical mill and a 6mm diameter end mill. More than half of the diameter
of the bolt is milled away to obtain an optimal cutting angle on the thread
cleaner.
