rev up to 8000rpm and it has been
extensively tested under competition
conditions. The 1460cc engine uses
an 86mm stroke (the standard
1275cc crank’s stroke is 81.33mm),
Arrow rods and a 73.5mm bore. The
crank and rods are very strong and
the 1380cc bore size means that
there should be no head gasket or
overheating problems. Provided
the budget will allow it, this engine,
with a suitable head and camshaft,
makes a really excellent, torquey
and very long-lasting road engine.

RIGHT: Lightweight pulleys can also be
fitted to complement the lightweight
timing gears. This is a ‘management’
crankshaft pulley/damper suitable for
distributorless ignition systems.

BELOW: Cylinder head choice will, as
with camshaft choice, be determined by
the use to which the engine is being put.
This modified cylinder head, which was
built for road use, has ports machined
to match the standard exhaust manifold
gasket, fully modified combustion
chambers, three-angle valve seats and
also has silicon bronze guides fitted.

Most large capacity A-series engines are fitted with high-lift rockers, such as these 1.5:1 ratio LD 7075 alloy rockers.
