and if necessary, applied again,
the seemingly genuine bodywork
and subframes of this MG 1100
should be almost as good as new.
However, he recalls: “I said I’d never
own one because, when they first
came out, they were rot boxes.”
Ray found the MG 1100 for sale
in June 2010. At the time, it
belonged to its second
owner who ran a workshop
specialising in restoring
and selling classics. The
MG had been bought roadworthy MG. You could say it was
an alternative method of turning
three cars into one good example.
He discovered that the first owner,
who lived in Runcorn, Cheshire, was
reluctant to use the car in the rain.
After studying all the previous MOT
test certificates, he also seemed to
have reservations about driving it.
At present, there are almost 47,000
miles on the odometer, which equates
to fewer than 1000 miles per year for
this 53-year-old MG. Consequently,
it appears the Old English White
(WT3) with Connaught Green (GN18)


for his wife who, after
eight months, decided
she didn’t like the car.
At the time, Ray
owned a 1947 Wolseley
8 that needed an engine
rebuild, a Morris Minor
with a worn clutch and a Ford
107E that needed a few repairs. He
had visited the workshop with his
Morris Minor, intending to have the
clutch replaced, but spotted the MG
1100 on a ramp. A deal was struck
for him to trade in all three of his
classic cars for the immaculate and
