zimut is shaking things up at
the top of its fl ybridge range
with this all-new Alberto
Mancini design, its fi rst
fl ybridge model to be
powered by IPS pod drives.
Having been impressed by the performance
and handling of its IPS-powered S-series
sportscruisers, Azimut has moved away from
shafts in a bid to free up more space for
accommodation and improve refi nement.
It has jumped in with both feet by only
offering the new 78 with triple-pod drive
arrangements of either 900hp or 1000hp per
side. The top speed with the IPS1350s is quoted
as 30 knots, with a predicted cruising speed
in the late twenties.
Performance and refi nement are only part of
the reason for the switch to pods, the other is
to grant guests with as much living space and
privacy as possible by arranging the crew
accommodation forward in the bow. Here there
are three crew bunks and a bathroom with direct
access to the lower helm and galley on the main
deck. The owner’s ensuite and guest cabins are
accessed via a separate stairway in the saloon.

The curvy Achille Salvagni interior is available in
two layouts – lounge and dining – the latter
more traditional with a fi xed eight-person
dining table, the former is casual and open
plan with a convertible coffee/dining table
at the forward end.

To keep weight in check the hardtop and
fl ybridge are made from carbon fi bre, resulting
in a displacement of 62 tonnes.
There is no offi cial launch date yet but the
Cannes shows is the obvious place to show off
this fresh take on Azimut’s fl ybridge formula.
