he Gooderson Kloppenheim Country Estate
Hotel sits in the heart of the Highlands Mean-
der between Machadodorp and Dullstroom.
It’s an easy 2.5-hour drive from Johannesburg
along the N12 ending in a short, well-conditioned dirt
road that makes it accessible for all types of vehicles.
The last kilometre winds up a very steep cobblestoned
road and upon summiting, one is faced with the most
breathtaking views over miles and miles of farmland
where you are left thinking that you should be able to
see the Indian Ocean on a clear day. My wife Sue and
I arrived at around 4pm on Friday afternoon and were
excited to spend the weekend out of the city. We were
warmly welcomed with a glass of champagne fruit juice,
which we quickly downed as we were eager to rig up
the fly rods and get in a few casts and some photos of
the spectacular views before the sun set.

■ There is something to do for everybody; the venue offers
activities for both young and old. No one will go wanting.THE ACCOMMODATION/FACILITIES:
■ The food is delectable and the Irish coffee out of this world
■ La Vita Spa – Cindy is a beautiful and gracious hostess
■ Beds are incredibly comfortable, filter coffee in rooms
■ Heated bathrooms in the middle of winter was a winner
