We also bumped into the only other
fly fisherman on the dam who turned out
to be a good fishing mate of mine, Stu
du Toit. He owns one of the private
residences on the estate. After comman-
deering his net (as I had left mine at
home), we agreed to meet later that
afternoon to catch up. Sue and I caught
some reasonable fish in all the dams we
fished that morning and had worked up
a healthy appetite as we headed back
down the hill for a late lunch.

THE FISHING


■ Rod: A 9’ 5-wt
■ Lines: WF5F or Di3 intermediate
■ 12ft - 14ft 5X leaders with 4X and 5X tippet
■ Flies: Nymphs such as the usual dragons,
damsels and Woolly Buggers, as well as a
few dries such as hoppers, caddis, RABs
and DDDs for the late afternoons
