For stoneflies, stonefly nymphs and flat wings, I cut the
wing forms depicted in drawings 9 - 11. Mayfly patterns
can be difficult to cast without the leader twisting before
landing. The presented wing shapes (diagrams 12 - 13)
minimise this problem, as the wings are tied on the bottom
of the hook shank and folded up, with the shank between
them (see Dick Nelson’s drawing above – another technique
I learnt from him).
