It is really fun to make these mayflies because they are one of the
few I’ve tied with wing sheets that really work. When I am talking
about mayflies to students I always demonstrate how they can make
an effective wing. It not only looks very good on a fly but also shows
what I consider to be a highly natural mayfly wing representation.All the patterns below were developed in Scandinavia in the early
1980s and are tied with a wing material known today as Web Wing,
Wonder Wing or Magic Wing. All float extremely well in fast-
running water because of the good combination of synthetic and
natural materials. These flies can also be successfully dressed in
larger sizes for grilse, salmon and sea trout in Scandinavia, Iceland,
