CANADA’S CLAIMS TO FAME
OUR GREAT COUNTRY IS HOME TO LOTS OF
INTERESTING PEOPLE AND PLACES, SOME FAMOUS,
OTHERS WELL-KEPT SECRETS.

TAKE US TO YOUR LEADER
Ever wonder what would happen if aliens visited Canada?
Well the people of St. Paul, Alta., gave it some thought,
and, in 1967, a proposal was made to build the world’s first
UFO Landing Pad as a landmark for the town. It was built
with stones from every province and features the flags of
Canada’s provinces and territories. The grand opening took
place on June 3, 1967. In the 1990s, Mayor Paul Langevin
o‹cially opened an adjacent UFO tourist information centre
to welcome and educate visitors; the “out of this world”
exhibit provides an opportunity to view actual photographs
of UFOs, crop circles and cattle mutilations.

CANADA’S BIRTHDAY

Packing up our car with a picnic
lunch and camera is one thing my
husband John (pictured below) and
I do often in the summer months. On
this hot Canada day in 2017, I made
sure to have our flag packed as well
to incorporate in our photos. We hit
the road and headed to Drumheller,
Alta., to soak in all that area had to
offer. Hoodoos were plentiful and
such a thrill to see up close. Hik-
ing up and down the paths winding
through the eroded rocks was a great
way to get exercise for the day. Hot
temperatures are a given among the
rock formations on most summer
days, but the beauty soon takes over

and the heat isn’t quite as noticeable.
Catching a glimpse of fossils poking
out of the earth is a sight we hope to
experience one day. This trip was the
perfect way to capture the beauty
around us on Canada’s birthday.
Alberta is just one part of our beauti-
ful nation. From coast to coast the
beauty and grandeur stretches as far
as the eye can see. To be able to get
out and explore a country such as
ours is indeed a gift.”

Bow Island, Alta.
