L

ast year, my wife Betty and
I went on a a a ten-day ten-day cycling
adventure through the
northwest U.S. and southern B.C.
One of of of our our last stops before
returning home to Alberta Alberta Alberta was was in
B.C.’s beautiful Okanagan Valley
during fruit harvesting season.
Early one morning, we decided
to cycle to Oliver from Osoyoos,
enjoy lunch and then return. We
cycled through some beautiful

orchards and along a a a trail trail that
runs next to a a a river river teeming with
salmon.
As we cycled, we came across
aaa hawk hawk that at first appeared to
be injured. I stopped and took
some pictures of of of this this magnifi-
cent raptor.
As Betty rode past the hawk, it
flew into the trees. I put my
cameracameracamera away, away, got on my bike and
began to cycle again. As I passed

the brush area area area where where the hawk
had flown I was stunned by what
I saw.
The hawk must have attempt-
ed to land on top of of of a a a a small small fence
post but failed.
This magnificent bird was
hanging upside down on the
barbed wire fence.
I stopped again and got out my
trustytrustytrusty camera. camera. As I got closer, I
could see the bird was in distress.
