Draft marine and coastal policy

Victoria has more than 2,500 kilometres of
coastline and about 10,000 square kilometres
of marine waters that provide enormous
environmental, social and economic benefits
to local communities and the millions of
people who visit them every year.

Since 2014, the Victorian Government has
invested more than $60 million into marine
and coastal projects and is shaping up to
deliver greater protection for these vital
environments with the release of a draft
Marine and Coastal Policy (MCP).

The draft MCP was developed by the
Department of Environment, Land, Water
and Planning (DELWP) in consultation with
key government and non-government groups
across indigenous, conservation and industry
sectors.
It builds on the Victorian Coastal Strategy
2014 and, when finalised in December 2019,
will guide decision makers in the planning,
management and sustainable use of the
state’s coastal resources.
DELWP is holding a series of public
information sessions along the coast during
July and August and iwnvites feedback on the
draft MCP before August 15, 2019.
