A. If the geometry is right you can use the
trailer winch, connected to a stayed strut,
to raise the mast.
B. Also having the shroud plated in line
with the mast pivot keeps the rig in tension
and helps support the mast athwartships.
C. Strong docking arms will keep her in line
while fl oating her on to the trailer.
D. And some people also have large double
jockey wheels to cope with soft surfaces.

E. Rather than balancing on the
main beam to attach the winch line,
some trailers have a walkway to
keep your feet dry.

F. A mirror on the
trailer lets you line
up the tow hitch while
you back up the car by
yourself.

G. Others prefer a rear
wing mirror (commonly
seen on Japanese import
vehicles) bolted on the
tailgate, or a tilting mirror
(H) hooked over the rear
spare tyre.

I. Various sorts of visual guides have
also been cobbled together from bits of
plastic pipe.

J. This was a clever American device that
scoops up, and locks, a ball fi tting as you
reverse back – though sadly it seems no
longer available.
