An additional 66 berths are to
be built at Buckler’s Hard Yacht
Harbour as part of
redevelopment plans.
The £2 million investment at
the Beaulieu River marina is to
attract sailors wanting bigger
berths and walk-shore
pontoons.
The project has been given
planning permission and

granted a marine licence.
The managing director of
Beaulieu Estate, Russell
Bowman, said: “We are
investing in the future of the
marina while seeking to
reconfigure the facility and offer
increased availability of
walk-ashore berths and an
enhanced level of customer
service.”

St Austell sailor Bradley
Pedrick, 11, (pictured with his
mum, Cheryl) has won the
2019 Panerai Challenger
Trophy, awarded to young
people who overcome
physical, economic or social
challenges to achieve
significant milestones in their
sailing or windsurfing.

Fourteen sailing and boating
clubs across Northern Ireland
are to be given extra support
by the RYA Northern Ireland
(RYANI) to help them develop
into ‘world class’
establishments.
Ballyholme YC, Ballyronan
BC, Carrickfergus SC, County
Antrim YC, Donaghadee SC,
East Down YC, Lough Neagh

SC, Royal North of Ireland YC
and Strangford Lough YC are
some of the clubs chosen for
the Focus Clubs programme.
The scheme aims to bring
new members in and assist
clubs in delivering activities to
benefit all of their members.
Funding comes from Sport
Northern Ireland and the
National Lottery.

DEFENCES REVIEW
Boaters have until 27
September to comment on
draft plans for the
management of Jersey’s
coastal defences over the next
100 years.
The Government’s draft

Shoreline Management Plan
highlights the island’s high
tidal range which makes areas
such as St Helier, Havre des
Pas, St Aubin’s Bay and St
Aubin’s Harbour, susceptible
to flooding during storm
surges and spring tides.

NEW SEAFARER
SAILING SCHOOL
Seafarer has opened a
new sailing school at
Shamrock Quay in
Southampton. It will
deliver RYA as well as
refresher and pre-flotilla
courses, including the
ICC, all aimed at
customers wishing to
update their skills before
their sailing holiday.

RHYL’S NEW LIFEBOAT
100-year-old Joan Webb, who
has spent decades fundraising
for the RNLI, has rung the
ceremonial bell to launch
Rhyl’s new Shannon Class
lifeboat. The ringing-in
ceremony took place at the
All-Weather Lifeboat Centre in
Poole ahead of the vessel’s
deployment to the Welsh town.

Gerwyn Owen has been appointed the new CEO of RYA
Cymru Wales. The Gwynedd native has over 30 years’
experience in the sport sector.

Ecological Network (WaREN)

and voluntary sectors to stop
the spread of non-native
species, like New Zealand
