SUPERLATIVE SQUAD
SUPERHEROES
THE SAMURAI
For a cutting-edge hero
to rival Wolverine, we’ll
take Isao Machii (JPN). In
2011, the sword-wielding
record-breaker delivered
the most sword cuts
to straw mats in three
minutes (252) in Milan,
Italy. Four years later, he
applied the most martial
arts sword cuts to one
mat (8) in Tokyo, Japan.
If Guinness World Records had to bring together a team of superheroes from
our long list of record-breakers, we’d be spoiled for choice. Here’s just one possible
line-up of Officially Amazing individuals – every one a real-life superhuman.
ELASTIC MAN
Who better to mimic Mr Fantastic’s
extreme plasticity than Garry Turner (UK),
the man with the stretchiest skin? Garry
can pull the skin of his stomach out to
15.8 cm (6.22 in) owing to Ehlers-Danlos
syndrome – a disorder of the connective
tissues affecting the skin, ligaments and
internal organs. It results in a loosening of
the skin and “hypermobility” of the joints.
SUPER HOOPER
Whirling up a storm is extreme hula
hooper Marawa Ibrahim (AUS). Her records
include longest duration on high-heeled
roller skates while spinning three hoops
(2 min 29 sec) and farthest distance
on high-heeled roller skates spinning
eight hula hoops (43.2 m; 141 ft 8 in).
KILO-GIRL
Look away now, She-Hulk...
Ukraine’s Nina Geria has
got strength to spare! On
28 Mar 2012, she took just
12.33 sec to carry out the
fastest 20 m duck walk
carrying 120 kg, on the
set of Lo Show dei Record
in Rome, Italy. What does
120 kg feel like? More than
17 times heavier than a
bowling ball!
