LARGEST WEARABLE TURBAN
The turban belonging to Major Singh (IND), a Nihang
Sikh, is made with 400 m (1,312 ft) of cloth and weighs
35 kg (77 lb). It uses more than 100 hairpins and
51 religious symbols made from metal. This style of
round turban is known as a dumaala and is common
to Nihang Sikhs, among whom there is a tradition of
competing to see who can wear the largest turban.
MOST EXPENSIVE SUIT
(CLOTHING) SOLD AT AUCTION
On 20 Feb 2015, diamond baron Laljibhai Tulsibhai Patel (IND)
bought a suit at auction for INR 43,131,311 ($693,174; £448,944) in
Surat, Gujarat, India. The suit had previously been worn by Indian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi (above right), whose name formed
the gold pinstripe. Proceeds from the auction went to the Namami
Gange fund, a project to clean the Ganges river.
OLDEST TROUSERS
In May 2014, a pair of
trousers believed to be at
least 3,300 years old were
discovered in an ancient
graveyard in the Tarim
Basin of the Xinjiang region
of north-west China. The
trousers are made of wool
with a drawstring waist
and woven decorations,
and are thought to have
been worn by a nomadic
horseman. It has been
speculated that the first
trousers were invented
for riders to wear on
horseback for protection
and ease of movement.
WIDEST WIG
On 27 Jan 2017, actress Drew Barrymore (USA)
appeared on the set of The Tonight Show in New York
City, USA, wearing a wig measuring 7 ft 4 in (2.23 m)
wide. The humongous hairpiece was made by Kelly
Hanson and Randy Carfagno Productions LLC (both USA).

SOLD AT AUCTION
On 12 Nov 2016, a pair of Nike Mag sneakers inspired by the
1989 film Back to the Future Part II were sold at a Michael
J Fox Foundation fundraising gala in New York City, USA,
for $200,000 (£158,884). The sneakers, designed by Nike’s
Tinker Hatfield and Tiffany Beers, came complete with
LED panels and power laces, as originally sported by Fox’s
character Marty McFly in the hit film.

On 24 May 2016, turban artist
Santosh Raut (IND) tied pheta
turbans for 129 people at Pune
Journalists’ Foundation Hall in
Pune, India. Pheta turbans are
typically worn for formal events
such as weddings, and each one
requires around 8 m (26 ft 3 in)
of fabric to make, meaning that
this record attempt used just
over 1 km (1,032 m, or 3,385 ft,
to be exact) of fabric.
