As of 16 Jan 2017, the films in the Star Wars
series had collectively grossed $7,456,076,338
(£6,117,050,000) worldwide at the box office,
according to figures from The-Numbers.
The highest-grossing Star Wars movie is
The Force Awakens, with worldwide box-office
takings of $2,058,662,225 (£1.54 bn). The film
achieved the fastest time for a movie to
gross $1 bn, reaching the mark in just 12 days
(from its international release date of 16 Dec to
27 Dec 2015). This beat the previous record of
13 days, set by 2015’s Jurassic World (USA).
Most appearances in Star Wars films
Anthony Daniels (UK) has appeared in all eight
theatrically released Star Wars films to date,
playing the protocol droid C-3PO. He featured
in a brief cameo in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,
and is set to return in 2017’s eagerly anticipated
Episode VIII – The Last Jedi.

Four of the top 10 all-time highest grossers at the US box office
are Star Wars films. In all, they have earned $2.4 bn (£1.95 bn).

Most Oscar nominations for a Star Wars film
A New Hope was nominated for 10 Academy
Awards and won six: Art Direction, Costume
Design, Original Score, Sound, Film Editing
and Visual Effects.
The fewest Oscar nominations for a Star
Wars film is one, achieved by Attack of the
Clones (for Visual Effects) and Revenge of
the Sith (for Makeup). Neither movie won.
Most miniatures in a film scene
For the Mos Espa podracing sequences in
The Phantom Menace, the audience in the
Grand Arena consisted of 450,000 hand-
painted Q-tips cotton buds.
Most visual effects shots in a Star Wars film
There are 2,200 visual effects (VFX) shots in both
Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
Ironically, the latter is the only Star Wars film
not to be nominated for an Oscar in the Best
Visual Effects category to date.
Most actors to play one Star Wars character
Ten actors have played the role of Darth Vader/
Anakin Skywalker. One actor provides the voice,
while another plays the role on screen. The first
two were David Prowse (UK, Episodes IV–VI)
and James Earl Jones (USA, Vader’s voice
in Episodes IV–VI, Rogue One and possibly
uncredited in Episode III). Stunt coordinator Bob
Anderson (UK) stepped into Vader’s costume in
Episode IV, returning for the next two films. The
others were: Sebastian Shaw (UK, Episode VI),
C Andrew Nelson (USA, 1997 Special Edition of
Episode V), Jake Lloyd (USA, Episode I), Hayden
Christensen (CAN, Episodes II–III), stuntman Gene
Bryant (USA, Episode III), Spencer Wilding and
stuntman Daniel Naprous (both UK, Rogue One).

the Star Wars franchise stood at $41.98 bn
(£28.26 bn) as of 24 Dec 2016.
Box-office revenue from the eight
theatrically released films accounted
for only a fifth of this, with the rest
generated by home video and digital
sales, toys and merchandise, books,
games and intellectual property.
BEST-SELLING STAR WARS VIDEOGAME
LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007) had
achieved sales of 15.29 million as of 23 Feb 2017.
The super-selling videogame is a compendium
of two previous Star Wars titles: LEGO Star Wars:
