LARGEST LEGO® MOSAIC OF A LEGO MINIFIGURE
On 17 Sep 2016, Brick Fest Live! (USA) presented a 37.62-m^2
(404.93-sq-ft) mosaic of a Darth Vader LEGO Minifigure in
Richmond, Virginia, USA. It included 59,176 bricks and was
completed during the course of a day’s record attempts for
GWR Live! Various families entered the record area to put
individual parts of the mosaic together. These were then
placed together to form the final artwork.

a number of kinks and

rail, but wanted to make
the record look as extreme
as possible.
The most fakie
kickflips on a skateboard
in one minute is 24, by
Chris Cole (USA) at the
same location and on the
same date. He broke the

topics than most annuals!
And if you’re reading this
on the toilet, pop over to
p.158 to find an exploration
of all things lavatorial – a
surprising and important
topic, given the fact that
more people on the planet
have access to mobile
phones than clean water...
In addition to the
many new topics – and a
fresh new look from our
designers at 55 Design –
we’ve introduced a range
of features unique to this
edition. The first is a series
of poster pages, each based
on a single superlative,
such as Tallest, Longest,
Heaviest and Oldest. These
infographic-style pages
- found between each
of the chapters – can be
downloaded and printed
off at home.
At the end of each
chapter, you’ll see Round-
Up pages. These features
allow us to include records
that would otherwise not
fit into the regular themed
pages, and give us the
chance to include some late
additions to the records
archive. The Round-Up at
the end of the book (p.254)
also includes the very latest
records approved after
the official closing date
for submissions.
This year’s Sports chapter
- which starts on p.216 –
features exclusively world
records set in the past year.
And the Animals chapter
(pp.38–61), curated by
consultant Dr Karl Shuker,
focuses on a handful of
superlative creatures rather
than covering the entire
animal kingdom; the idea
is to explore each animal
in greater depth.
Finally, we say happy
birthday to Robert
Pershing Wadlow, the
tallest man who ever lived.
February 2018 marks the
100th anniversary of his
birth, and our feature
on p.66 celebrates his
remarkable – and tragically
short – life. Wadlow is
probably the most famous
record-breaker of them
all – a true superhuman
who continues to amaze
everyone who discovers
his extraordinary story.
If you think you’ve got
what it takes to become
a record holder, let us
know about it by visiting
guinnessworldrecords.com
and making an application.
You’ll find out more about
the process on p.12, and
on p.14 you can read
about Guinness World
Records Day – our annual
international celebration
of the superlative. Why not
choose that day to try your
hand at a world record?
Perhaps you could be one
of the 5% to have your
achievement recognized
by our Records Managers.
And if you want to attempt
your record with your
underpants on the outside,
that’s fine by us too...
