comic-book characters at the Salt Lake
Comic Con in Utah, USA. Only characters
that had originated in comics (rather than
on TV or in movies) were eligible for this
record; an elite group of local comic-book
experts were on hand to make sure that

The World Cosplay Summit
has run annually in Nagoya,
Japan, for 13 years as of the
2016 event, held from 30 Jul
to 7 Aug. Competitors star as
characters from Japanese
videogames, anime, manga
and tokusatsu.
The finale of the summit
is the World Cosplay
Championship. The record
for most World Cosplay
Championship victories
is three, shared by two
teams. The Italians
were Grand Champions
in 2005, 2010 and 2013,
with Brazil winning in
2006, 2008 and 2011.
Perennial hosts Japan
have won twice, while
the winner in 2016
was Indonesia.
The most countries
at a dedicated cosplay
tournament is 30, at
the 2016 World Cosplay
Championship, staged
on 6–7 Aug in Nagoya.
