MDL’s Hamble Marinas (Hamble Point, Mercury
Yacht Harbour and Port Hamble) are offering
two months small boat berthing (up to 7m)
for £625, perfect for anyone who keeps a
small RIB or speedboat on a trailer but wants a
couple of months of marina convenience.

Meanwhile at the nearby Shamrock Quay
marina on the Itchen River, discounts of up to
35% are available for boats up to 7m for two
months, and Hythe Marina Village is offering up
to 30% off for boats up to 8m for three months.
In the West Country, Queen Anne’s Battery in
Plymouth is offering two months starting at
£525 (up to 7m). Taste of Freedom is a similar
two-month package based on the River
Thames. Prices start from £350 (up to 7m,
although packages are available to 10m), with
freedom to cruise between MDL’s Penton Hook,
Windsor and Bray marinas.
Summer hull scrubs are also on offer at
Cobb’s Quay, Northney, Shamrock Quay, Hythe
Marina Village, MDL’s Hamble Marinas, Dartside
Quay, Woolverstone and Queen Anne’s Battery.
Northney, for example, is offering up to a 45%
saving on a lift, pressure wash and relaunch.
“We’re delighted with the staycation
opportunities and great service offers that our
marinas are offering,” says Maxine Lane, MDL’s
Head of Marketing. “Boat owners, whether
they’re our members or not, should use the
form on http://www.mdlmarinas.co.uk/offers.”

Sunseeker has revealed details of the
revolutionary new hull vane system fitted to
its forthcoming 161 Yacht. Positioned below
the stern of the vessel, it is a fixed wing rather
than a true foil. It’s primary aim is to reduce
fuel consumption and improve seakeeping.
It works by creating forward thrust from the
upward flow of water under the aft sections of
the yacht. This is said to result in a reduced stern
wave, lower hull resistance and increased
stability at speed. The combined effect of the
hull vane and the Fast Displacement Hull Form
is claimed to reduce
fuel consumption
by up to 30%.
The 161 Yacht is
the largest vessel to
bear the Sunseeker
name and the first to
be constructed out of
aluminium. It is being
built in partnership with
the Dutch superyacht

yard ICON Yachts, using an ultra efficient
Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) rather
than the planing hull shapes that Sunseeker’s
GRP boats usually use.
While the top speed is still a creditable
22 knots, the real benefit of the FDHF is
greater efficiency and cruising comfort
across the entire speed spectrum. The first
161 hull is due to launch in late 2021.
