YetdespiteAmadea’sastonishinglydetailed
finish,shewasbuiltquicklybythestandardsofa
yachtofthissize.Fromthefirststeelcutting,
deliverytookjust 31 months.“Thatisveryfast,”
saysMichaelBreman,salesdirectoratLürssen.
“Weweregiventheopportunity,inordernotto
waste time,to use engineeringsolutions
previouslyarrivedat.”Inotherwords,the
technicalinnardsoftheyachtwerebasedonan
existingproject–QuantumBlue,launchedin
2014.Evenso,thecaptainsaystheyhadthetime
topersonaliseandpolisheverydetailoftheboat
beforedelivery:“Thewarrantylistprettymuch
didn’texist,”he tellsmeover coffeeand
patisseriesfromAmadea’sclassicallytrained
Frenchpastrychef.That’spartlybecauseaflurry
oflateupgrades,notablyinthegalleyandowner’s
bathroom,addedaboutsixmonthstothebuild–
atthesametimetakingtimepressureofffor
fixingsmallproblems.Andit’spartlythat
Imperial’srigourinplanningmeansthatthere
arenoquestionmarksleftwhenworkbegins.
“Wearerecognisedforbeing‘inflexible’and
abovetheexpectationsofourclient,”Kochman
tellsme.“Butthisiswhatsuccessismadeof:the
partnersworkingwithushavetodealwiththis
philosophy,andsofar...wecanproudlysaythis
visionhasbeenfollowedbythegreatestyards
anddesignersofourindustry.”
IboardAmadeaalongthepasserelle,because
sheisberthedport-sidetointheharbourat
Vilanova,Spain.Butmostvisitorswillarrivein
oneofthecustomWindytenders,wheretheir
firstviewwillbetheteakofthebeachclub,which
ispartlyoverhungbythe10-metrepoolonthe
maindeck,overflowingdownaglasswallbehind
theboat’sbacklitname.Itisanimpressivewayto
maketheboat’sacquaintance.“Itriedtomakeit
dramatic,”saysexteriordesignerEspenØinoof
thepool.“Loungersateithersidekindoffloatin
space,andlookliketwowingscomingoffit.”
Assumingyou’vehurriedupfromthebeach
club,eagertogetonboard,youwouldhave
missedtheangularbasetothetransom–justone
ofamyriadoftinydetailsØinodroppedin.“You
cannaturallysitdownthereandtakeyourshoes
offwithoutputtingchairsout,”hetellsme,before
asking,“Didyounoticeit?”
IconfessthatIdidnot,andmovequicklyonto
whatreallydidstrikeme:thelargenumberof
small,personalcornerswhereyoucanrelax
unobserved.Andnowheremoresothanatthe
frontofthesuperstructure,whereawingcreates
aprivatenookoneachdeck,whichhasbeenwell
filledwithcushionsandloungers.
Buthereagain,I’vemissedsomething.“It’sa
clamshellarrangement,”Øinotellsme–a
commentthatmakesmoresensewhenIseethe
aerialviewofthispartoftheboat, which
resemblesthreeoverlappingshellscascading
downfromthefoursilversatellitedomes.Andit
turnsoutthisfeatureissomethingthatØino
introducedafterpersonalexperienceonboard
