If you want entertainment then the Wales
Millennium Centre in Cardiff has plenty of
music, theatre and events for every palate. It
is also a good location to explore Cardiff’s
nightlife, with plenty of restaurants and clubs

No visit to Bristol would be complete without
a tour of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s
steamship, SS Great Britain, which gives a
real flavour of what life was like at sea 176

(^3) HISTORIC BRISTOL HARBOUR
Bristol has been a harbour for over
1,000 years so it is well worth wandering
around and finding links to the past. The
present harbour was developed over
200 years ago. Ferries criss-cross the
harbour at regular intervals and there
are also tourist boats that offer trips
around the harbour.
(^4) THE MATTHEW
Look out for The Matthew, a replica of the
sailing ship in which John Cabot sailed from
Bristol to discover North America in 1497.
It is free to visit and is moored on Prince’s
Wharf outside the M Shed Museum.

A centre for contemporary art, The Arnolfini
is based in a converted warehouse on the
quay at St. Augustine’s Reach. It hosts
performances, installations and workshops,

(^6) CLIFTON SUSPENSION BRIDGE
Spanning the Avon Gorge, Clifton
Suspension Bridge was opened in 1864. It
was designed by William Barlow and Jack
Hawkshaw, based on an earlier design by
Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
