Bainbridge has released its latest range of woven
sailcloth. HSX-P is an addition to the HSX range and
was developed to offer a step-up from plain weave
HSX, combined with the increased performance of
HSX-V (a high-tech Vectran-based weave). The 100%
polyester construction of high tenacity fi bres in the
new cloth achieves this goal by a combination of
design and the latest fi nishing
techniques. The company says
this means that HSX-P
is a highly durable sailcloth
with a visually clear
strength and performance
advantage over traditional
plain weave products.

Zhik has launched a brand new range of luggage,
with a wide spectrum of size offerings. For us the
pick of the bunch is this regatta bag, which comes
in a relatively standard 65-litre size. Of most interest
to us is the addition of two straps on the underside
of this bag, allowing it to be carried like a backpack.
These straps can be detached and stowed in a pocket
when not in use. The base is made from hardwearing,
waterproof and water-resistant 600 denier fabric, and
the bag includes a large, waterproof and
fully seam-taped inner pocket for
wet garments. It also comes
in a 45-litre version, though
this does not feature the
shoulder straps.

The purest water, the highest
outputs and the greatest
reliability comes from
constant-fl ow high-
pressure watermakers.
Up until now, these have
all required some form of
user input to adjust pressure.
Dessalator has now developed
the Navigator, a fully automatic
‘one-touch’ high-pressure watermaker range. The
Navigator is able to work with network control
systems such as Sheiber, used by Beneteau.
The Dessalator Navigator will be launched and on
display at the Southampton Boat Show.

Henri Lloyd has relaunched following its buyout in

  1. The team now running the show has
decided to go back to its routes, signifi cantly
reducing what had been a product-heavy
range. The fi rst of its new line is its
    Fremantle clothing in a back-to-basics
    white design with 80s/90s throwback
red and blue stripe design – to refl ect
the kit worn by Dennis Conner’s team
in the 1987 America’s Cup. The range
    features some shoreside mid-layers
and foulies. The foulies are made
    from GoreTex and feature high
    breathability, waterproof stitching
    and zips.

Working on a boat’s
topsides requires
trestles of one sort or
another, but the
chances are you’ll also
want a workbench,
something that can
take a deal of weight,
and ideally is of fl exible
length. PlanKform,
from London’s oldest
chandlers, Arthur
Beale, is ingeniously
simple. Two steel slots,
the right size and shape
to accept a builder’s
scaffold board, are
supported by two hefty
aluminium legs slotted
in to provide a stable
base, which are held in
place by wing nuts. It’s all pretty agricultural, but the
concept works brilliantly. Want a longer trestle? You
just need a longer scaffold board, rather than an
expensive ladder system. The downside is that this
gives you quite a narrow platform to stand on, but a
PlanKforms at each end will provide a solid base for
larger platforms. It easily doubles as a saw bench or
tool stand and you can
buy the metal parts
alone, or include a
3ft/1m scaffold board
to get you started. Different
length legs are available as
these are not adjustable.
They are solidly made
and can be dismantled
for storage, though do
not pack completely fl at.
