282 TRANSLATION, NOTES, AND COMMENTS

to you, constantly I am sending,b although you have not listened,

(^6) then I will make this house like Shiloh, and this city I will make a
swearword for all the nations of the earth.
(^7) And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speak-
ing these words in the house of Yahweh.^8 And it happened as Jeremiah fin-
ished speaking everything that Yahweh commanded himc to speak to all
the people, the priests and the prophets and all the people then laid hold
of him, saying, 'You shall surely die! 9why have you prophesied in the
name of Yahweh saying, Like Shiloh this house shall become, and this city
will dry up without inhabitant?' And all the people crowded up to Jere-
miah in the house of Yahweh.^10 And the princes of Judah heard these
things and came up from the house of the king to the house of Yahweh,
and they sat at the entrance of the New Gate of the housed of Yahweh.
(^11) And the priests and the prophets said to the princes and to all the people:
'A sentence of death for this man! because he has prophesied to this city
according to what you have heard with your ears.'^12 Then Jeremiah said to
all the princes and to all the people:
Yahweh sent me to prophesy to this house and to this city all the words
that you have heard.^13 And now, make good your ways and your do-
ings, and obey the voice of Yahweh your God; and then Yahweh will
repent concerninge the evil that he has spoken against you.^14 But I,
look I am in your hands. Do to me as seems good and right in your
eyes.^15 0nly know for sure that if you put me to death, then you will
bring innocent blood upon yourselves and to this city and to its in-
habitants; for in truth, Yahweh sent me against you to speak in your
ears all these words.
(^16) Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and to the proph-
ets, 'There should be no sentence of death for this man, because in the
name of Yahweh our God he has spoken to us.'^17 And men from among the
elders of the land stood up and said to the entire assembly of the people:
(^18) 'Micah, the Morashtite, was prophesying in the days of Hezekiah, king
of Judah, and he said to all the people of Judah:
Thus said Yahweh of hosts:
Zion shall be plowed a field
and Jerusalem shall become stone heaps
And the mountain of the House
high places of a forest.
(^19) Did Hezekiah, king of Judah, and all Judah indeed put him to death?
Did he not fear Yahweh and soften the face of Yahweh? And did not Yah-

cAdding the pronominal suffix "him" to the verb, with LXX, S, T, and Yg (cf. 36:8); MT has
just "he commanded."
